Points to note:
1. More that 50% of the salmon caught were returned which is encouraging for the future. The high water allowed more than the usual number of springers, some of them impressively large, into the club water.
2. Sea trout numbers were down on last year, however this may be due to the high water in May and June allowing fish to run through. The consistently high water meant that it was often difficult to fly fish and this may have been the reason that there were been less sea trout fishers on the river and so one would expect less fish to be caught
3. In the absence of stocking there remains a good head of brown trout in the river, however, the large increase in Brown Trout may in part be due to the misrecording of some coloured sea trout.
Drummond Loch
The loch fished well from the opening of the season until August when it clouded with algae. Later fishing was also difficult because of loose weed. 200 brown trout averaging 1lb were stocked in April; 368 were caught this year, 139 for an average of 1.67lb were kept with 229 returned. Several anglers had over wintered fish around the 21/2lb mark and fish up to 4lb were recorded.
